John DuBois for Miami-Dade County Commission District 8

Experienced public servant. Innovative Legislator. Dedicated community leader. Ready to deliver more for District 8.

John DuBois is running to bring accountable, resident-focused leadership to Miami-Dade County. As former Vice Mayor of Palmetto Bay, DuBois is committed to fiscal responsibility, smart growth to improve rush hour traffic flows, safer communities, and action not rhetoric to deliver results that matter to District 8 residents.

Meet John DuBois

Serving Public,
not Public Service.

John DuBois has been a resident of Miami-Dade for over 25 years. The most profound change during that time has been the dramatic increase in traffic without adequate improvements to the public transportation infrastructure. The time it takes to drive through rush hour traffic has degraded the quality of life for all of us. It’s time to change this and John DuBois will work with his colleagues on the Commission to resolve this issue during his first term as your commissioner.

Mr. DuBois dedicated a great deal of his time and money over the last 25 years serving on the Board of Directors of Camillus House and 20 years serving on the Board of Camillus Health Concerns. These faith-based organizations delivered exceptional services that became a model for every other major city in the US to end chronic homelessness and provide medical services for the uninsured and underserved. John also hosted the annual Educate Tomorrow gala, an organization that supports education and life skills training for foster care children who age out of the system.

In 2012, Mr. DuBois was elected and served 2 consecutive 4-year terms as Vice Mayor of Palmetto Bay. Vice Mayor DuBois introduced many creative ideas and innovative legislation praised by residents for supporting neighborhood protection, improving quality of life and improved village services without increasing taxes. His first term in office marked the end of elected officials controlled by special interests. Mr. DuBois’ is, once again, called to serve District 8 residents after experiencing years of special interests controlling our elected official at the expense of serving District 8 residents.

Priorities

John's District 8 Policy Focus

Traffic Relief

Traffic is one of the biggest quality-of-life issues facing District 8. John will focus on practical traffic mitigation, better planning, and infrastructure investments that improve rush hour traffic flows.

Jobs in South Dade

John will promote 50,000 new jobs closer to where people live in D8 & D9. With economic opportunity zones and high skilled job training programs in Districts 8 and 9, reverse commutes will mitigate rush hour traffic congestion and strengthen the local economy.

Infrastructure Before Development

Growth must be responsible and properly planned. John will fight to ensure infrastructure is funded in conjunction with new development, so roads, transit, drainage, and public services can keep up with the needs of our communities.

Fiscal Responsibility

We need fiscal discipline and competence in D8, not another social media influencer. Ask D8 commissioner Cohen-Higgins why the County declined to purchase the Fischer Island Fueling Station property needed to fuel the cruise ships at port of Miami while she was chairperson of the Port Committee. The property sold for $180m last year and now the county must pay $400m to buy it back. Why did she try to stop the mental health facility from opening after the county spent $50m building it years ago ? There are other recent events equally troubling; It's time for a change in D8 representation !

Responsible Development & Affordable Housing

John supports responsible development that respects neighborhoods, improves quality of life, and includes real solutions for affordable and workforce housing. Growth should work for residents, not against them.

Honesty, Integrity & Service

John believes public office is about serving people. He will bring honesty, integrity, accessibility, and a resident-first approach to Miami-Dade County government.
